Former England manager Gareth Southgate has ruled out a quick return to Premier League management, saying he does not see himself going back into club coaching at this stage. BBC Sport reported the comments on 15 October 2026.

According to The Guardian, Southgate said he is taking a break from football and has been spending time away from the regular demands of the job. The Guardian also reported that he had last been to a match in May 2025.

The former England boss, who stepped away after his spell in international management, was quoted as saying he does not envisage returning to the Premier League. BBC Sport carried that direct message as part of its report on his latest public comments.

The Guardian added that Southgate said his enjoyment from victories had become limited by the end of his spell in the game, presenting that remark as part of his explanation for stepping back from day-to-day involvement in football.
